The short version
- SuperEditr reads only the text you select, and we never receive it.
- We don’t run servers for the app. There are no accounts and no analytics.
- Your text stays on your Mac unless you choose a cloud AI. Then it goes straight from your Mac to that AI.
Text you check
SuperEditr is made by Spectrum Zero LLC. When you select text, it reads only that selection. It never reads password fields, and by default it ignores password managers, Keychain Access and terminals. A selection that contains something that looks like a secret, such as an API key or a private key, isn’t checked at all.
Where the selection goes depends on the AI you choose in Settings → Models:
| Your choice | Where your text goes |
|---|---|
| Built-in offline checker | Nowhere. It stays on your Mac. |
| Apple Intelligence | Nowhere. It runs on your Mac. |
| Ollama, LM Studio or another server | To the model on your Mac, or to the server address you entered. |
| Your Claude, OpenAI or Gemini API key | Directly from your Mac to that provider. |
| Your Claude subscription | To Anthropic, through the Claude Code app you’re signed in to. |
We aren’t part of that connection and can’t see it. Each provider’s own privacy policy covers what it does with your text.
Keys, settings and logs
API keys are kept in your Mac’s Keychain. Your settings, styles and word list are stored on your Mac. None of them are sent to us.
“Find AI accounts on this Mac” looks for keys in your shell profile and Codex settings, a signed-in Claude Code, and local Ollama or LM Studio. It runs only when you ask, and nothing it finds leaves your Mac.
If you turn on the diagnostic log in Settings → Behavior, SuperEditr writes app names, timings and text lengths to a file on your Mac, never the text itself. Turning the log off deletes it.
Updates
The app checks for new versions by downloading a small file from GitHub, where releases are published. Like any download, GitHub sees your IP address. The app sends no identifier.
This website
supereditr.app has no analytics, no tracking cookies and no forms, and loads nothing from other services. It’s hosted on Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to deliver the page and block abuse. The download comes from GitHub.
Bug reports and email
If you report a bug or start a discussion on GitHub, what you write there is public and covered by GitHub’s terms. If you email us, we use your message only to answer it.
Children
SuperEditr isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
